Not sure if our hats will fit your cat? Don’t worry—measuring your cat’s head is quick and easy. Here’s a step-by-step guide with helpful tips to make it stress-free for both of you!
🛠 What You’ll Need
-
A soft measuring tape (like a sewing tape)
-
Or a piece of yarn or string + a ruler
-
A few treats (to bribe your little fashionista)
🪄 Measurement 1: Inner Ear Distance
Measure the distance between the inner edges of your cat’s ears—right where the ear meets the head.
📍 This gives us a sense of your cat’s skull width and spacing.
Tip: Use your fingers to gently part the fur to find the base of the ears.
🪄 Measurement 2: Outer Ear Width
Now measure from the outer edge of one ear to the outer edge of the other (over the top of the head).
📏 This helps us determine the width needed for ear holes or ear gaps in our designs.
🪄 Measurement 3: Full Head Circumference
This is the most important one!
Wrap the tape:
-
From in front of one ear
-
Under the chin
-
Back up to in front of the other ear
🎯 This loop goes around the widest part of your cat’s head—just like where a hat would sit.
🧶 Helpful tip: If your cat doesn’t like measuring tapes, use a piece of yarn instead. Mark or cut where the ends meet, then lay it flat and measure with a ruler. Our sizing is forgiving—close enough is good enough!
📐 Meowism Sizing Chart
Use your cat’s head circumference as the main reference. The ear spacing helps with fit comfort, and the weight range can offer extra guidance if you’re between sizes.
Size | Head Circumference | Inner Ear Distance | Outer Ear Width | Cat Weight (Guide) |
---|---|---|---|---|
XS | Under 22 cm (8.7 in) | Under 5 cm (2 in) | Under 8 cm (3.1 in) | Under 3 kg (6.6 lbs) |
S | 22–25 cm (8.7–9.8 in) | 5–6.5 cm (2–2.6 in) | 8–10 cm (3.1–3.9 in) | 3–4.5 kg (6.6–10 lbs) |
M | 25–28 cm (9.8–11 in) | 6.5–7.5 cm (2.6–3 in) | 10–12 cm (3.9–4.7 in) | 4.5–6.5 kg (10–14 lbs) |
L | Over 28 cm (11 in) | Over 7.5 cm (3 in) | Over 12 cm (4.7 in) | 6.5+ kg (14+ lbs) |
📌 Some fluffy cats (like Persians or Ragdolls) may appear larger due to fur—always go by head circumference, not visual floof level!
